The Shire of Upper Gascoyne contracted Talis to address the flooding of the Shire’s central community. The town’s roadhouse, service station and caravan park were all impacted by the flood; and the Talis Civil Engineering team was required to replace an open drain located within private property at the rear of these facilities. Legal action was pending from the owner of the adjoining land.
Under time pressure, Talis worked to develop an alternative drainage strategy; achieving a design that ensured that surface water flow across the boundary of the Shire’s land and into the private land would always remain less than pre-development flows, even with the open drain removed. The work ensured that major flows were redirected into upgraded drains within the road reserves, providing an additional benefit of flood prevention within normal drainage criteria. The legal action was withdrawn.
Talis’ work provided a cost-effective solution to both the Shire’s legal and flooding issues.
