This project was undertaken for the Shire of Upper Gascoyne and was required to address flooding of the town’s road house, service station and caravan park, and to replace an open drain that was located within private property at the rear of these facilities. Legal action was pending from the owner of the adjoining land.
An alternative drainage strategy was developed that reinstates that surface water flow across the boundary of the Shire’s land and into the private land to less than pre development flows, with the open drain removed. The major flows were redirected into upgraded drains within the road reserves which also ensured that flooding would not occur, within normal drainage criteria. This proved to be a cost effective solution to the legal and the flooding issues.
