Talis was engaged by the City of Wanneroo to complete a desktop geotechnical Investigation at a former landfill facility located in Wangara.
The site has an area of approximately 19 hectares which was utilised as a sand mine until the 1980’s when it was purchased by the City and used as a putrescible waste landfill. The landfill received domestic and general rubbish between 1985 and 1989, following which the acceptance of putrescible waste ceased. The eastern portion of the site still accepted inert waste until 1991 when the whole site was closed and capped by an inert sandy layer.
The objectives of this investigation were to:
- Review available, but pertinent, information relating the site characteristics;
- Provide information relating to the geotechnical constraints of the site; and
- Identify what further investigations may be required.
As a result of the investigations, Talis did not consider the site to be geotechnically capable of supporting a proposed commercial/industrial development without further, more detailed investigations. Talis was subsequently engaged to undertake an intrusive investigation of the contamination and geotechnical status of the site.
