Talis was engaged by the Shire of Ashburton to prepare a Landfill Closure Plan for the Onslow Landfill facility in accordance with the Victorian Best Practice Landfill Guidelines due to the impact of future developments surrounding the site. The Closure Plan included detailed design of the final waste profile and GCL capping system, surface water management system and landfill gas management system. As part of these works, Talis calculated the remaining void space and developed a landfilling plan to guide the Shire’s filling operations. Talis also prepared a Construction Quality Assurance Plan for the project in accordance with the Victorian Best Practice Landfill Guidelines.
The Landfill Closure and Construction Quality Assurance Plans were approved by the DER which involved Talis assisting with the liaison with the regulators. Talis subsequently prepared Contract and Tender documentation for the project and administrated the tender and evaluation process. Finally, Talis engineers performed the role of Construction Quality Assurance requirements for the project and assisted the Shire with the Superintendent role. This facility is the first landfill in WA to be fully closed in accordance with Victorian Best Practice Landfill Guidelines.
