Talis Consultants was engaged by the Shire of Ashburton in 2015 to prepare a Landfill Closure Plan for the Onslow Landfill facility. Our work required adherence to the Victorian Best Practice Landfill Guidelines, with particular operational diligence required due to the potential impact of the closure on future developments surrounding the site.
The work on the closure plan included the detailed design of the final waste profile and GCL capping system, surface water management system and landfill gas management system. As part of this process, our team calculated the remaining void space and developed a landfilling plan to guide the Shire’s filling operations. Our responsibility included the preparation of a Construction Quality Assurance Plan for the project, and subsequent liaison with both regulators and stakeholders prior to its approval by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
Talis subsequently prepared contract and tender documentation for the project and administrated both the tender and response evaluation process. Finally, Talis engineers fulfilled construction quality assurance requirements for the project and assisted the Shire with the administration process.
The Onslow facility was the first landfill in Western Australia to be fully closed in accordance with Victorian Best Practice Landfill Guidelines. Talis Consultants continues to assist the Shire of Ashburton in their development of the new replacement Onslow Waste Transfer Station.
