Talis was engaged by the Department of Environment and Conservation to undertake a waste data study within the Pilbara region and Shire of Broome. The project, managed by the Office of the Waste Authority, was to identify, capture and represent data from the key waste streams (Municipal Solid Waste, Commercial and Industrial and Construction and Demolition) to inform planning and policy and improve waste management systems across the region.
As part of this process, Talis has conducted a comprehensive desktop review of existing data and developed a Waste Classification System based on Australian and international systems. To gather additional data, Talis will undertake consultation with key stakeholders including local governments, resource companies and waste industry representatives. Talis will utilise the data collected to map waste generation and treatment in the region and project growth over the next 20 years.
Following on from the Waste Data Study, Talis assisted the Waste Authority and the Pilbara Development Commission to determine the key Waste Priorities within the Pilbara including peak and problematic waste streams as well as infrastructure and market gaps.
