Talis has been working with Norton Gold Fields since 2014, assisting with a number of mine closure plans concerning Norton operations around the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region.
Norton holds significant tenure in the area, alongside responsibility for a range of current and historical operations requiring ongoing environmental management. This obligation includes management of environmental risks during active mining, closure & post-closure.
The closure work has covered a variety of infrastructure and landforms including but not limited to mine voids, waste rock dumps, tailings storage facilities, borrow pits and processing facilities across a large number of domains. In particular (and given the historic nature of many of the operations), Talis has taken a cooperative approach to regulator’s requirements, ensuring that the closure not only satisfies environmental stakeholders but also maximise opportunities for project expenditure through careful consideration of final landforms.
